Winchester cook wins top prize at The Chicory Challenge

28th Nov 2007 - 00:00
Abstract
An amateur cook from Winchester has been awarded the top prize at the Chicory Challenge final.
Susie Carter, who works for Hampshire Fare, won the rewarding prize with her winning recipe of chicory tarts with goats cheese and thyme. Cater commented: "I am so proud to win the competition. The prize money will be donated to Hampshire Fare where it will be used to develop courses to encourage more people to use fresh local produce." The other two finalists – one from Waddesdon Church of England School in Aylesbury and Acklam Grange School in Middlesbrough, won the £1,000 and £500 prizes for second and third place. This money will be spent on the schools' food technology departments. Each dish was judged closely by English and Dutch cooks, food writers and VIPs at the cook off final that took place in The Netherlands on 21-22 November. The three finalists were originally picked out of 150 entries which the competition received. Weblink: www.chicorychallenge.co.uk
