Welcome Break reportedly set for £700m sale

Motorway service station group, Welcome Break is set to go up for auction following a number of takeover enquiries.

The group is currently owned by Appia Investments and is fielding a number of requests and could see a sale of up to £700m.

The Sunday Times reported that a number of investment firms, including Carlyle Group and 3i Infrastructure, have ‘run the rule’ over Welcome Break in recent months.

Welcome Break reported a turnover of £314m and profit before tax of £18.97m for the year to 27th January 2015.

Founded in 1959, Welcome Break has 27 sites across the UK and attracts 80 million motorway customers annually. Brands including Subway, Burger King, Costa and Harry Ramsden's have sites within the Group's sites.
