Abstract
At today's Queen's Speech in the House of Lords plans to introduce a tax on sugary soft drinks by 2018 were detailed.

The announcement reinforces the government's commitment to introducing the tax as outlined in George Osborne's Budget in March.

Celbrity chef Jamie Oliver and charity Sustain had campaigned for the introduction of the tax as a measure to reduce child obesity rates in the UK before the Budget was announced.
