Abstract
Food and drink travel operator SSP UK has announced Macmillan Cancer Support as its charity of the year 2018.

Helping to raise “much needed funds” to provide emotional, practical, financial and medical support for those living with cancer, the initiative will this year see SSP host four “dedicated” fundraising events across its 700-strong outlets as well as its Birmingham and London offices.

The company will also donate a “third of the donations received in its till-point collection tins” and a £100,000 grant from the SSP Foundation to “further boost” fundraising.

SSP UK and Ireland chief executive, Simon Smith, said: “We (SSP) are pleased to be working with Macmillan to fund expert cancer support. We have around 10,000 colleagues across the country, which means that unfortunately, cancer will have affected many of us.

“But Macmillan is there to help people live life, and by fundraising for this important charity, our colleagues will help people get the support they need to face cancer. We are looking forward to a year of fun charitable events and hope to raise thousands for Macmillan in the process.”

Gini Smith, Macmillan Cancer Support corporate partnership manager, added: “Macmillan is delighted to welcome SSP UK on board as a new corporate partner.

“Almost one in two of us will receive a cancer diagnosis by 2020, and Macmillan’s aim is to be there for everyone living with cancer when they need it most. We rely on much-needed donations from companies such as SSP to provide support during treatment, or help with work and money worries.”
