Abstract
Services firm Sodexo UK & Ireland has been awarded a €1 million a year contract to provide catering at Trinity College London.

The deal includes a complete refurbishment and menu overhaul of the Arts Building Café, which will now become ‘The Perch’.

Sodexo said it hopes the space will become a “social hub” for students on campus, adding that it will be working with local suppliers on the food offering.

Trinity College is the sole constituent college of the University of Dublin, the highest ranked university in Ireland according to the QS World University rankings for 2018.

Established in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I, the university currently has over 170,000 students.

Paul Anstey, chief executive officer of Schools & Universities, Sodexo UK and Ireland, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the contract at Trinity College Dublin.

“We hope the staff, students and visitors enjoy the new café concept as well as our responsibly-sourced, healthy range of freshly-prepared food and refreshments.”

The win follows Sodexo’s first Irish university catering contract pickup last year with NUI Galway and its 720-seater An Bhialann restaurant.

The contract catering firm currently employs around 3,700 staff in over 230 locations across Ireland. It 2016, it claimed to have served 90,000 people daily and spent over €19 on Irish food.

Margot Slattery, country president, Sodexo Ireland, added: “Sodexo has a strong reputation for providing innovative food offer to our clients in Ireland. We are confident we can bring together strong sector and local knowledge to provide a superbly-executed and innovative café concept.”
