Scottish health officials to discuss 'tackling obesity' in keynote seminar

Scottish health officials will discuss the next steps in tackling the country’s obesity crisis in a keynote seminar later this year.

Geoff Ogle, chief executive of Food Standards Scotland and David Thomson, chief executive officer of Scottish Food and Drink Federation, will head up the conference in Edinburgh on 27th October 2016.

Other speakers at the ‘Next steps for tackling obesity: prevention, sugar consumption and policy priorities’ conference include representatives from the University of Glasgow and University of Stirling, as well as Cathy Capelin of Kantar Worldpanel, councilor Norma Austin Hart of Responsible Retailing of Energy Drinks Campaign, Lorraine Tulloch, of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and Dr Ian Twinn, ISBA.

Areas of the discussion will include public health trends and inequalities associated with obesity; prevention, intervention and impact of marketing; the next steps for reducing sugar consumption, including the reformulation of products and the role of legislation; and Food Standards Scotland’s priorities for tackling obesity and the role of the food and drink industry.
