Abstract
Red Tractor Assurance has appointed Jim Moseley as chief executive after David Clarke, its first ever chief executive is to retire after 19 years.

Moseley said: “I am delighted to be leading Red Tractor on the next phase of its development.

“David Clarke has done an outstanding job establishing an developing a comprehensive and robust assurance scheme which has been adopted and supported by the whole food chain.”

Moseley will join the Red Tractor with experience at General Mills, FMC (Meat) LTS and most recently condiment manufacturer Mizkan.

Clarke will leave Red Tractor, which launched in 2000, with an aim to reassure consumers on safety of British food, after food scares in the 1990s.

Under Clarke’s leadership, over 60,000 farm businesses became members of the scheme.

Clarke said: “More than £14 billion of food carried the Red Tractor logo on it last year. Government agencies also recognise the quality of the scheme, meaning Red Tractor farmers get fewer regulatory inspection.

“Establishing such a robust scheme which has to constantly evolve has not been without its challenges but I am leaving the organisation in great shape for the future.”
