Abstract
Approximately two million turkeys, 74 million mince pies and 17.2 million Brussel sprouts will be thrown away over the Christmas period, according to new research.

The research from londoncleaningsystem.co.uk found that 30% more waste is created over the Christmas period, costing a startling £3.4 billion.

Filip Mijatov from londoncleaningsystem.co.uk, said: “We do find Christmas to be a busy time for us. We get a lot of demand for our services and we are fully booked over the festive period! It’s hardly surprising considering all the food, presents, and the fact houses are hosting extended family all at one time. Its convenient to put everything in one bin when you are busy and tired from the day.”

It’s not just food that is wasted over the Christmas period - six million Christmas trees are discarded, one billion Christmas cards will end up in the bin and 227,000 miles of wrapping paper will be thrown away.
