The award was presented at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, for the hospital’s new interactive and visually appealing Maple system - the first of its kind to be used within the NHS in the UK.
It was developed by local software developer Ambinet.
Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) worked closely with the hospital’s caterer Sodexo and Ambinet to develop the new system which aims to put the patient ‘at the heart’ of the process.
Patient details, including specific dietary requirements, are inputted onto the system on arrival at the ward, and immediately the patient and ward staff are able to view the menu options, which are visually displayed, and make their order through the easy-to-use touch screen handheld device.

“We will continue to work closely with the facilities team at the hospital to complete full implementation of the system and will be supporting the next series of workshops which is being held for BCH staff to ensure a smooth roll out.”
