NFU calls ASDA price cuts hard to stomach

21st Jun 2007 - 00:00
Abstract
ASDA have declared a pricing war against the other major supermarkets by slashing over 10,000 prices a move being described by the National Farmers' Union as “squeezing suppliers margins”.
More food will have to be imported from abroad with lower welfare and environment standards and, in most cases, a larger carbon footprint. Will supermarkets be taking out full page adverts to boast about that?"
