Abstract
Neel Radia has been re-elected to the role of national chair of the National Association of Care Catering (NACC) for a further two years.

Roger Denton has also been named national secretary of the association that represents professionals providing and associated with the provision of catering to the care industry.

Since September 2013, Radia has led the organisation against a backdrop of a sector under pressure due to the ever-growing older population and social care budget cuts enforced in times of austerity.

Notably, Radia has passionately championed the protection of Meals on Wheels services, calling on the government to make the vital service statutory throughout the UK.

Through research, public speaking and ongoing action, the NACC has helped to put the issue firmly on the political and public agenda and in his second term Neel is determined to continue to do this.

Radia is also an advocate of the power of training and development, both for those already working in the industry and those looking to embark on a career in care catering.

He played a major part in the creation of the very first professional qualification for the sector, the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery in Health and Social Care, in collaboration with the Hospital Caterers Association and Barnet and Southgate College.

Radia said: “I am incredibly proud and honoured to be re-elected as NACC national chair.  It really is a huge endorsement of the hard work of the past two years.  In this time the team has laid firm foundations that I am thrilled to be able to build upon.

“For example, the pilot of the first ever professional qualification for social care catering was a particular highlight and I very much look forward to taking this to the next level.  I must also mention Meals on Wheels. We have a long battle ahead to ensure that this valuable service is protected for future generations but as an association, we are ready.

“The care sector encompasses a broad range of needs – from the much-publicised older generation to younger people in care and also those with special needs.  As national chair of the NACC I am committed to ensuring that our work to uphold excellence in care catering reaches everyone.”

Radia works for Raj Foods, the manufacturer of Halal and ethnic meals for the care and health sector. Before assuming the position of national chair, he led the south east region of the NACC for six years.

Roger Denton is a long-standing active member of the NACC and former NACC national chair. He too has been passionate about protecting the Meals on Wheels service and his legacy as national chair was the creation of the NACC Meals on Wheels Week in 1997.  Roger’s career has seen him manage catering services in three London boroughs.
