Abstract
The Restaurant Association, Hospitality Action and the Variety Club have joined forces to launch a Meal Appeal initiative to raise funds for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.
Every establishment joining the scheme adds a discretionary donation to diners' bills and 25 restaurants and hotels have pledged support including Von Essen Hotels; the Vineyard at Stocks Cross and London Fine Dining Group, taking in Aubergine, Zafferano and L'Oranger. The launch was hosted by TV presenter Jonathan Ross a long-standing supporter of the Variety Club whose Children's Charity will receive funds along with Hospitality Action. Restaurant Association chairman Bob Walton said: "Meal Appeal has been designed as a really simply and cost effective mechanic to give something back. There was good support for the initial pilot scheme. These are challenging times for us all, but we must not forget those that need our help." Bob Cotton of the British Hospitality Association said: "This initiative allows operators to offer on-going support as well as providing a feel-good factor for their customers and I urge hospitality establishments to sign up."
