Abstract
Don’t miss your chance to enter the British Culinary Federation’s (BCF) 2018 Young Chef of the Year, as entries close 8 October.

Now in its 21st year, the contest is open to chefs under the age of 23 and aims to “encourage and support the industry’s next generation of chefs in achieving while giving them a stage to showcase their talent and skillset.”

The final will take place on 5 November at University College Birmingham, where all finalists will have two hours to create a two cover, three-course meal. This year’s brief includes a vegetarian starter and focus on British produce throughout.

Competitors will be judged on a ‘comprehensive criteria,’ from professional techniques and culinary skills, to best hygiene practices.

Managing director of sponsor Cofresco Foodservice (maker of Wrapmaster), Adrian Brown commented: “We’re honoured to return as a sponsor of the BCF’s Young Chef of the Year competition.

“Working with professional kitchens for over twenty years, Wrapmaster is invested and passionate about chefs and especially in supporting the next generation of talent. We wish all the finalists the very best of luck.

“In all kitchens, cleanliness of work space, staff hygiene, minimisation of bacteria and crucially, cross-contamination, are key considerations for chefs.

“It is really encouraging to see the BCF recognise hygiene as a major judging criteria and we are proud to support the finalists in maintaining high hygiene standards throughout the final.”

The winner will be invited to the winner’s lunch with Villeroy & Boch and also be seeded into the National Young Chef of the Year final. He/she will also take home a £500 cheque, David Bache Trophy and commemorative plate.
