Industry to discuss ‘next steps’ for food packaging and waste management

The next Westminster Food and Nutrition Forum seminar will focus on food packaging and waste management in the UK to ensure that the industry meets the government’s 25-year environment plan.

Taking place at The Caledonian Club (London) on 10 July, head of business collaboration at WRAP, Dr David Moon, is among the keynote speakers already confirmed.

 

Other speakers include: Nick Brown, Coca-Cola European Partners; Helen Munday from the Food and Drink Federation; Eric Giry, agricultural counsellor; as well as senior representatives from Zero Waste Scotland.

 

Between them, they will address key issues such as:

  • How can the food and packaging industry meet the waste reduction targets set out in the 25-Year Environment Plan, including zero avoidable waste by 2050 and no avoidable plastic waste by
  • Latest developments in smart packaging, potential alternatives to plastics and opportunities for increasing the use of recyclable materials;
  • Progress in packaging innovation to reduce excess packaging, while ensuring food safety and minimising waste from spoilage
  • The roles and responsibilities of parties across the supply chain - including local authorities and partnerships, recycling providers and producers
  • Lessons from waste management schemes and food waste policies across the UK
  • Alternative international systems
