Abstract
Nearly half (45.7%) of workers in the hospitality sector admit to ‘benching’ a recruiter, with two thirds (66.7%) stating that they would be willing to keep a job offer on the bench for up to two weeks, according to a new survey.

The survey, from independent job site CV-Library, found that nearly a third (29.2%) of workers in the hospitality sector have made a recruiter wait for over a month, with 64.7% thinking that job hunters should keep potential employers on the bench in case a new job doesn’t work out.

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, said: “It’s clear from our data that many candidates are holding on to their job offers, in order to see if they can get a better deal elsewhere.

“And, while the majority would make a recruiter wait for nearly a fortnight, a significant amount are stating that they would make them wait for well over two weeks. In some cases, this is a strategy that can pay off, but I would advise any candidate in the industry to be careful of pushing away a great opportunity, by taking this approach.”

According to the data, it also turns out that candidates are being benched by recruiters too, with over half (55.9%) of workers in the sector stating that this had happened to them. And, of those that were placed in a talent pool, nearly a quarter (23.3%) said that they got a job as a result.
