Homemade pies can boost profit for operators – research finds
Abstract
New research from Jus-Rol Professional, founder of British Pie Week, is calling on caterers to put homemade pies at the top of menus this winter.

Over three quarters of people are opting for homemade dishes in venues such as pubs and 79% of consumers are wiling to pay more for a homemade pie, according to commissioned research by Jus-Rol.

Chris Braeger, sector controller for foodservice, General Mills UK, Ltd, said: “The pie is at the heart of British cuisine, giving customers the perfect mix of winter-warming comfort food and value for money.

“Research – as well as our own insight – shows there is a captive audience out there actively seeking authentic, homemade, local dishes and nothing is more versatile to meet these demands than the pie.

“Chefs and operators with a view to increase profits, should look no further than this great British classic, especially given that 15% of people enjoy four or more pies a month!

Jus-Rol will be producing a pie guide full of recipes in the coming months alongside website activity that features tips and advice to help caterers meet the demand for homemade pies and make the most of the season.
