Abstract
In the week that Britain voted to leave the EU, we found some food facts.

Cubby Broccoli, the producer behind the successful Bond films, lived up to his name. He was raised on the family vegetable farm and claimed his uncle brought the first broccoli seeds to the US in 1870.

Last year a petition to ‘make wrongly describing a casserole with a pastry lid as a pie a criminal offence’ gained 5,687 signatures. It argued that pie with a puff pastry lid is not actually a pie and is a casserole instead. Unfortunately it did not gain enough signatures to be debated in parliament.

Splinters, the bane of any parents life. But if you tape part of a banana peel over it the enzymes help work the splinter out of the skin and amazingly heal the wound.
