- Grape growing is the largest food industry in the wold, as there are over 60 species and 8,000 varieties of grapes
- The Mayan and Aztec cultures were the first to make hot chocolate. This precursor to hot chocolate was used for religious ceremonies, such as coming of age celebrations and weddings
- Those apples you find in the ‘fresh’ fruit aisle may not be as fresh as you think… controlled atmosphere storage means that apples can be 'put to sleep' and can be 6-12 months old before you buy them at the supermarket
- Yubari melon, a juicy and extremely sweet orange melon, is the world's most expensive fruit at £17,600 ($23,000) per pair
