Forget calling it ‘The Big Freeze’, it’s ‘The Big Cheese’. Authorities in the US state of Wisconsin – known for its cheese and harsh winters – have taken to using a cheese whey with rock salt to prevent roads from freezing over. In fact, it works so well road surfaces can withstand temperatures of –21 degrees, five degrees below standard rock salt.

Every year, nearly 163,000 pints of Guinness are wasted because of moustaches! Scientists discovered that the froth sticks to hairs, which wastes a small but significant amount of the beer. Guinness calls this the tache tax.

Peanuts are beans not nuts. They belong to the pea and bean family and grow underground whilst real nuts grow on trees.

The term ‘gooseberry bush’ was 19th century slang for pubic hair. The use continued into the 20th century with parents telling their children they were ‘found under a gooseberry bush’ to avoid a more literal description of how they were born.
