Compass supports FSA's calorie labelling initiative

27th Jan 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Compass Group UK & Ireland has pledged support for the Food Standards Agency's (FSA) programme of introducing calorie labelling on menus.
Starting this month, the group is providing calorific values per meal, as well as information on sugar, fat, saturates and salt in a GDA/traffic light combination in over 1,200 client sites. El-Mokadem, Compass Group UK & Ireland managing director, has told Tim Smith, chief executive of the FSA that the UK's largest food service business is already leading the way in providing their consumers with calorie information. Speaking in response to the meeting, Ian El-Mokadem said: "Health, good nutrition and encouraging a balanced approach to eating are at the heart of our business and we are committed to improving our consumer's diet and health by making it easier for them to make healthy choices." He added: "Compass Group is committed to lead the way in the food service sector in understanding the needs of consumers and being at the forefront of providing nutritional information."
