Abstract
Compass Group UK & Ireland hosted an event celebrating female chefs on 6 September as part of its ‘Women in Food’ programme at London’s Sommerset House.

The event was attended by around 200 guest and female chefs from across the industry, including Giselle and Emily Roux who took part in a question and answer session.

The mother and daughter spoke on a variety of topics surrounding women’s role in the food industry and their own experience in the field.

Emily Roux, daughter of Michel Roux Jr. and a consultant chef for Restaurants Associates, said: “As a young female chef I understand the challenges women may face when wanting to develop their career in this sector.

“Women in Food is a great programme to support the needs of female chefs and to encourage women to consider a career in the culinary world.”

As well as being treated to food from stands hosted by female owned food organisations, guests were reminded of the steps Compass had taken in supporting its female workforce, such as its launch of personal protective equipment (PEE) specifically for women.

Dennis Hogan, managing director of Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: “As a people-powered business we believe our colleagues should be provided with the right support and development opportunities.

"I’m proud to be part of the Women in Food programme as it aims to further encourage an inclusive workforce for our female colleagues.”
