Abstract
More vegan and vegetarian products are being consumed than ever, according to research by Ubamarket.

The supermarket shopping app found that Brits ate 150million more meat-free meals in 2018 than the year before.

It said that products such as Quorn, Alpro, Linda McCartney and BOL Foods were no longer considered specialist foods and “what was once a small segment to cater for, is now the critical mass of 2019.”

The research revealed that on average, consumers spend £25 a week on vegetarian and vegan products, totalling £1.3 billion a year, and 39% of those buying the products were meat-eaters.

It also found that 32% are consciously trying to eat less meat, for reasons ranging from health to environmental impact and 26% said that trends such as Veganuary or Sugar Awareness Week are helping to shape shopping habits.
