Abstract
The British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) is hosting a fire safety event for facilities, warehouse, and health and safety managers, focussing specifically on composite panels and their risk.

Claiming composite insulated panels (CIPS) are “imperative to maintaining a constant temperature of food during manufacturing and storage,” the organisation also said they pose a number of risks to fire safety.

To help minimise risk, BFFF is running a one-day event (27 June) to teach delegates how to identify issues, correctly mark and manage the panels, and will also discuss practical solutions around composite panels, thermography and site development planning, which is ‘often where issues with the panels arise’.

It follows feedback from members who said they would like advice on how to protect and develop the frozen food industry, as chief executive John Hyman explained: “As a federation, it is (BFFF’s) role to listen to our members and their needs, and respond to them with solutions and advice that will protect and develop the frozen food industry.

“Composite panels are a prevalent topic within our industry and we are proud to be hosting an event that will provide real insight into the subject.

“This is an area that is incredibly complex and the panels themselves pose some high risks.

“However, with the right knowledge and skills, there are effective ways to manage them from a health and safety point of view.

“Our aim is that through a mix of talks, discussions and practical demonstrations, delegates will leave the event with some strong insights that they can implement within their organisation that will make a tangible difference within health and safety.”

Confirmed speakers include Matthew Peace from the Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue; Tony Ryan, Kingspan; Craig Morris, Vulcan Inspection Services; and Stephen O’Reilly from H&K Fire Engineering.

The event also includes a visit to the Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue facility, where demonstrations using the composite panels will take place and offer guests the chance to try thermographic technology.
