13th Nov 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Eight employees of bakery product innovator, Bakehouse, pounded the pavement in the name of charity at the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on Sunday 12th October, clocking up 13 miles in an average time of one hour 57 seconds to secure 29th place out of a total of 93 corporate teams who took on the challenge.
The fun began with a pre-race warm up from the Army Cadets, whilst TV personality Ben Fogle got everyone off on the right foot. The Bakehouse team were amongst 12,500 people taking part in the race, and were running in aid of several charities including the Royal Parks Foundation itself, who manage and conserve all of the parks to ensure that future generations can enjoy them to the full. Chief Operating Officer at Bakehouse, Tony Brown, managed to win the fastest time for the team, completing the race in one hour 40 minutes. Between the 93 corporate teams who participated in the marathon, 164 different charities were represented, and over 100,000 water bottles were collected and recycled and 10,000 Fairtrade bananas eaten by the end of the day. Matt Ash, comments: "Everyone put in a lot of effort to make the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon a success. It was a great day out for our team and we are really pleased that we came quite high up on the leader board with so many companies taking part."
