The British Poultry Industry has opened entries for its eighth annual Student Chef competition, to shine light on and “inspire students to cook with British turkey.”

Open to all year two and three catering students across the country, the challenge requires entrants to cook either a starter and/or main course using British turkey thigh or breast meat, with the winning dish served to be at the British Poultry Awards banquet on 20 September, Sheraton Park Lane Hotel.

To get involved, chefs must email who will then partake in a live cook-off at University College Birmingham on 31 May. With both the winner and two runner-ups earning themselves work experience with James Dugan, head chef at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel, they will also be awarded catering vouchers of £300 and £150 respectively.

Chief executive of the British Poultry Council, Richard Griffiths, said: “This is a unique and fantastic opportunity for student chefs all across the country to showcase their skills and creativity to a host of key decision makers in the industry.”

Managing Director of Aviagen Turkeys, who sponsor the Student Chef competition, added: “We are once again thrilled to be sponsoring the student chef competition. Every year the standard of entries just gets better and better.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to discover the versatility of turkey, and how it lends itself to a wide range of dishes and cooking techniques from the traditional to more modern.”
