British Food Fortnight launches annual competition

As part of British Food Fortnight, organiser Love British Food has this week launched its annual competition to find ‘the best community celebration of British food’ in partnership with supermarket Co-op.

Taking place 22 September – 7 October, schools, hospitals, care homes, community groups, pubs, restaurants and whole villages, towns and cities are all encouraged to take part – with popularity growing year-on-year.

With judges this year including high-profile chefs and industry figures, including Raymond Blanc; Liz Earle; Candice Brown; president of the NFU, Minette Batters; British Food Fortnight founder, Alexia Robinson; and Breige Donaghy, director of Delicious Food at Co-op.

Robinson commented: “The competition gets bigger each year as increasing numbers of people and communities are realising how important it is to support our farmers, producers and local food business. 

“This competition is a super opportunity for communities to come together and appreciate the delicious and diverse food that is produced on our doorsteps.

“We are looking for entries that educate people about British food, and events that strengthen the local community and provide a legacy that can be built on year on year.”

To be in with the chance of winning this year’s prize, which includes having a Love British Food ambassador attend their event in 2019, £250 worth of Co-op vouchers, case of Les Pionniers champagne and ‘goodies’ from the campaign ambassadors visit:  

Having supported the initiative since in launched in 2012, Blanc added: “Last year the entries were incredible - care homes, preschools and even a hospital roof garden got involved. 

“It was great to see so many varied events taking place. The 2017 winner, Ginger & Spice Festival (Market Drayton) already has plans to make the festival bigger and better.

“So we’re expecting more inspirational entries this year.”
