Young’s Seafood headed to Farmwise Devon – a local children’s farming event – last month to help educate primary school children about the benefits of sustainable seafood.

This is the second year running that Young’s has supported the event, saying it is keen to “to attend such events to inspire and educate young children to experiment with seafood”.

With an audience of over 18,000 kids, this year’s show provided students an insight into the seafood industry, the importance of protecting the marine environment and the different fish species available.

It also shed the light on the health benefits of eating fish, with Young’s development chef, Joel Carr, tasking the youngsters to create their own fishcakes using fish, potato, herbs and spices, before sampling the company’s new cod fishcakes.

Foodservice director Adrian Greaves said: We were delighted to return to Farmwise Devon for the second year. It’s an honour to be part of an event that shares our passion for closing the knowledge gap between the food on our plates and its origins.

“Farmwise provides school children with a fun, educational experience that encourages them to be enthusiastic about learning.

“Our aim was to give the children an overview of the seafood industry and the importance of sustainability, while getting them involved with making their own fishcakes and trialling some of our products.

“The children were really engaged and loved learning about the different species of fish available. The day was a great success and really puts into practice our vision to inspire children to love fish for now and for generations to come.”
