Warewashing brand, Winterhalter, is offering a £12,000 prize fund for the Kitchen Porter of the Year competition.

Since Winterhalter launched the competition seven years ago it has given hundreds of businesses the chance to show their appreciation for the vital work that kitchen porters do.

There is still time to nominate your favourite kitchen porter, as the deadline is the 9 August. Nominations can come from all sectors of the catering industry from Mitchellin starred restaurants to schools. This year’s prize fund is worth £12,000 and every nominee will receive a gift.

Paul Ainsworth said: “To be able to celebrate kitchen porters is great – the [Kitchen Porter] of the Year is a brilliant idea.”

Many chefs including Paul Ainsworth of Number 6 and Chris McGowan of Wine & Brine began their careers as kitchen porters.

Stephen Kinkead, managing director of Winterhalter UK, added: “We’re always blown away by the quality of the entrants. It’s very inspiring to see companies wanting to acknowledge and celebrate the work of [kitchen porters].

“It’s important to make sure the less glamorous jobs get their moments in the spotlight, because without them everything else would grind to a halt!”

The winner will receive a trophy, £1,000 cash and a celebratory dinner for their friends and family. They will also win a new Winterhalter for their work place worth £8,000. The runners up will receive cash prizes and a Kitchen Porter of the Year apron.
