What makes the perfect chip? New research reveals all

17/09/2018 - 09:02
To gain insight into the ‘perfect’ chip, McCain Foodservice carried out four blind taste tests over the summer to see how its products fared against its closest competitors’.

Serving over 5,000 portions of chips over four days, the company found that consumers look for a crisp outside coating, fluffy middle and a product that retains heat.

What’s more, 100% of those surveyed said they ‘liked the chips they were served’ and a further 99% would be happy to have McCain products served in pubs.

The research was carried out in four pubs over four days, starting at chef Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park (Marlow).

McCain marketing and category controller, Jo Holborn, commented: “Consumers are always front of mind when McCain is developing new products and this approach has given us valuable insight to use during the new product development process.

“We will definitely be incorporating this into our on-going strategy to ensure we are creating something that we know consumers will love, and ultimately operators can sell.

“We understand it’s a brave move to taste test your products directly against your competitors, but this only demonstrates the confidence we have in the quality of the food we produce, and we can’t wait to reveal the new products we have lined up.”
