Twenty year old chef Ben Murphy, who works under Pierre Koffmann at The Berkeley in London, has returned home from EuroSkills Lisboa in Portugal with Medallions for Excellence in both the cooking and cook and serve multi skill categories.

Ben Hare, aged 19, from University College Birmingham, has also brought back a Medallion for Excellence for the cook and serve multi skill. This award goes to a competitor who achieves a score of at least 500 points, demonstrating that they have surpassed the European benchmark in their skill area.
For Murphy, the award comes hot on the heels of his winning the New Zealand UK Link Foundation Challenge in November, which won him a three week study trip to New Zealand.
The two chefs were part of a 20 strong team representing the UK in a variety of skills from cooking to landscape gardening, which achieved an impressive 17 medals at the challenge that ran from December 9-11.
This competition aims to raise the profile of vocational education and training in European Countries and saw 463 young people from 27 countries compete for medals, and plays an important role in the UK's preparations for WorldSkills London 2011.
Competitors who have yet to secure a place in Squad UK used the experience of competing to help them prepare for selection competitions which continue to take place in the lead up to the global event.
Those who competed at EuroSkills as part of Squad UK training for WorldSkills London 2011 continue to be supported by Edge, premier supporter of Squad and Team UK, and Brathay, premier training and development partner for Squad and Team UK.
