Sodexo appointed Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust’s first external caterer

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has decided to outsource its catering services for the first time by signing a ten-year deal with multinational services provider, Sodexo.

The contract will see Sodexo provide meals for the Trust’s three hospitals- Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital.

Sodexo is set to introduce a range of culinary developments such as a new electronic ordering system for patients and new meal trolleys into the hospitals, as well as expanding opening hours across the sites.

James Taylor, chief executive of of Sodexo Healthcare, said; “I am delighted that the Trust has appointed the Sodexo team as their first external catering provider.

“We see this as an opportunity to collaborate with the Trust to deliver a first-class experience for patients, staff and visitors.”

Dr Kirsty Edmondson Jones, director of estates and facilities at the Trust, added: “It is our intention to provide the best possible catering services for those who come to our hospitals and we believe this investment will allow us to offer a top notch and varied dining experience for the people of Doncaster, Bassetlaw, Mexborough and beyond.”

Sodexo also recently extended its contract with Chesterfield Royal Hospital by seven years, continuing a twenty-year partnership between the two.

The new contract, which started on 1 October, remains ‘cook freeze’ with a combination of Tillery Valley meals and onsite produced general menu products along with an extensive in-house produced special diet menu range which Sodexo says caters for 14 different special diet categories.

Patient meals are produced in a central production kitchen, using specialist regeneration trolleys, which are then transported to wards where they are served to patients by Trust staff.

Caron Bromley, general manager for Sodexo at Chesterfield Royal Hospital said: “We are delighted that we have been re-awarded this contract so that we can continue to develop our strong relationship and to continue to improve the dining experience for patients.”
