School Food Matters shortlisted for NatWest skills and opportunities fund

School Food Matters’ Young Marketeers programme has been shortlisted for the NatWest skills and opportunities fund.

The fund enables people in disadvantaged communities t develop, create or access the skills and opportunities they need to build their financial capability skills or to start or develop a new business now or in the future.

The Young Marketeers programme sees young people become market traders for the day so they can lean about where food comes and how to sell it.

It is looking for support to run the programme, which is devised to help disadvantaged schools provide real-life enterprise opportunities for the students.

As part of the project, it will teach children the skills of enterprise, sales and marketing while engaging them in the ‘fun of growing, cooking and selling food’ before setting up a stall at Borough Market to sell the produce they have grown and the dishes they have cooked.

By securing the funding, the programme hopes that it can provide nearly 7,000 children with knowledge about enterprise and over 300 with hands-on experience of selling the produce they have cooked or grown.
