William Watkins, managing director and founder of soft drinks brand Radnor Hills, has been nominated for the Welsh government’s St David Awards for Enterprise.

Celebrating “exceptional achievements by Welsh citizens within Wales, the UK and globally,” Watkins is up against 25 other nominees across the nine categories, including: bravery, citizenship, culture, enterprise, innovation, international, sport, and young person.

Radnor Hills has been praised for its commitment to producing soft drinks from its family farm for 25 years - now employing 180 people from the local area and in many cases, more than one generation of a family working together – as well as supporting local charities and community projects (from primary schools to youth groups and community centres).

Watkins said: “I am thrilled to be nominated in the Enterprise category in this year’s St David Awards. It’s such a great honour to be recognised for (Radnor Hills’s) innovation and development within the soft drinks industry and something I am extremely proud of.”

First Minister Carwyn Jones added: “The (St David Awards), now in its fifth year, is a celebration to acknowledge just some of the people who have had input to make the significant difference to someone else's life, overcome adversity or have achieved something truly inspirational.”

The 2018 award winners will be announced at the Senedd (Cardiff) on 22 March.
