New Quality Food Awards celebrate young people within the industry

The Quality Foods Awards – which reward the finest food and drink products in UK supermarkets - has launched a new national award that recognises the achievements of young people within the industry, the UK Rising Star award.

Open to under 25s who either already work in the food and drink products industry or are studying to enter this field - whether they are training to be a development chef or are in the retail grocery sector - the UK Rising Star award will champion young, upcoming talent and is in partnership with the award’s newly nominated charity, Working Options in Education.

Run by the MonKey Business Foundation Ltd, national development manager for Working Options, Lauren Monk said: “The Working Options programme has two overarching aims, the first is to help give young people in state sixth form colleges the confidence to succeed and reach their full potential and, secondly, to encourage as many young people into the FMCG industry.

Helen Lyons, publishing director for the Quality Food Awards added: “We were keen to do something to celebrate those young people who want to enter our industry and are showing huge potential to be dynamic future leaders.

“We couldn’t think of a better partner for this new award than Working Options in Education. Their commitment to promoting our sector as a vibrant, rewarding place to work among young people is in complete alignment with our desire to support and champion the food and drink products and the production and retailing of them.”

The Quality Foods Awards has also launched The UK and Irish Food Hero awards today, the latter which is sponsored by Tesco Ireland.
