M&J has released to the market its Aquaculture Stewardship Council King Prawns, the UK foodservice’s first certified responsibility farmed and sustainable king prawns.

The prawns have minimal glaze and no additives, and are supplied raw, peeled and deveined in 1kg bags. They can then be defrosted, thawed and cooked for meals.

M& J say that caterers can also flag up the ASC status of the prawns on the menu to show customers that they are serious about sustainable fish and seafood.

Recent analysis by Fish2fork and the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) reported that high street restaurants and pubs need to do more to prevent seafood being overfished.

King prawns and other tropical prawns were identified as one of the most ‘problematic’ types of seafood used by restaurants and pubs.
