Lexington Catering, a contract catering company based in London, has been named a 3-star ‘Sustainability Champion’ by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA).

In awarding the accreditation, the SRA recognised the caterer’s approach to supporting the local community, global farmers and their team.

The Sustainability Champion is a global standard that aims to improve the hospitality industry’s on-going commitment to sustainability, particularly with regards to their approach to sourcing food and impact on the environment and society.

Julia Edmonds, managing director at Lexington, said: “We strive to reduce, reuse and recycle as much waste as possible to minimise our impact on the environment. It is fantastic to be recognised for our efforts and we are absolutely delighted to see our score increase.”

In the less food waste category, Lexington scored 90%, compared to an average score of 68%.

The firm also bettered the average rating (48%) in the ‘more vegetables and better meat’ category with a score of 74%.

Work with Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospitality and the Central London Rough Sleepers Committee helped Lexington achieve a score of 97% in regards to supporting the local community.

“We have already put in measures to improve our approach to sustainability and ensure we continue to do our very best,” said Rachel Linder, director at Lexington and SRA lead.

“Looking ahead Lexington will continue to focus on reducing waste. We will also do more to promote the positive work we are doing customers and our team.”
