Building on its fight against single-use plastic, event caterer KUDOS has removed all plastic drink bottles from Penshurst Place & Gardens (Penshurst).

The move, which took effect from 1 May, means that drinks are now only available in fully-recyclable glass bottles or cans, in both the Porcupine pantry café and garden restaurant.

It follows a company-wide decision to replace plastic straws with a biodegradable paper version at all KUDOS venues; swap disposable cups with china mugs at the RAF Museum; and allow people to fill up their own water bottles for free at all retail outlets.

Ben Thomas, general manager at Penshurst Place Estate, said: “We’re thrilled to be another exclusive venue in the KUDOS portfolio to be eliminating plastic waste from our catering outlets.

“As a long-standing agricultural estate, environmentalism has always been of the upmost importance to us and our visitors, and it’s fantastic to see these values mirrored in our partner caterers.”

KUDOS chief executive, Matthew Herter, added: “The team are proud to have set an example by eliminating plastic bottles from an exclusive venue such as Penshurst Place.

“Single-use plastic is a huge problem that impacts everyone’s lives, and we do what we can to tackle it and make a positive impact.

“KUDOS drives such measures throughout other venues and we will continue to develop our green initiatives across our business.”
