The Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) and the Soil Association’s Food for Life programme have agreed to form a closer working relationship with the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

HCA chair Phil Shelley, and Food for Life director James Cashmore, signed the agreement as part of the HCA’s commitment to working with other trade organisations.

Shelley said: “I believe with greater collaboration, we will have a stronger voice on the political stage and will be in a better position to face healthcare and public sector challenges together.”

Recent partnerships include the British Dietetic Association (BDA), the Health Estates & Facilities Management Association (HEFMA), and the Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals (AHCP).

Cashmore added: “The missions of both Food for Life and HCA to improve the quality of food served within hospitals combine perfectly and we are looking forward to working together to ensure that the food served in hospitals is representative of the healthy places that hospitals should be.”

The HCA aims to promote, develop and improve the standards of catering in hospitals and health establishments in the UK and Northern Ireland.
