Double celebration for NHS catering service

11/05/2009 - 00:00
Cambridge-based Lifespan Catering Services is celebrating a double achievement - attaining a major environmental award and being recognised in the NHS Supply Chain.

Lifespan is the catering arm of the Anglia Support Partnership (an NHS support services organisation), with a 50 plus strong team based at the Ida Darwin site in Fulbourn, Cambridge. Having already attained the ISO9001 quality standard, Lifespan Catering Services has recently been presented with the ISO14001 environmental standard – following its commitment to keeping waste and the impact on the environment to a minimum. The award means that Lifespan Catering Services will be looking to further reduce its impact on the environment, helping its customers and the NHS as a whole. In another coup, Lifespan Catering Services has been selected by the NHS Supply Chain as a nationally recognised catering supplier to any NHS hospital in the eastern region. The business, headed up by Trevor Colcomb, currently provides a 'cook-chill' meal service to a range of NHS hospitals and private nursing homes in and around Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Leicester and London. Over 24,000 portions of food are produced each day, with the business operating seven days a week, 365 days a year. Over 5,000 patients eat the food daily. Trevor Colcomb, head of catering said: "We have been working steadily towards this latest accreditation, and we are delighted that months of hard work and commitment by the team we have here has paid off. The selection by the NHS supply chain gives us a welcomed opportunity to further our business to other hospitals who require a cook-chill service."
