The winners of the 12-month long, in-house chef of the year competition from Compass Group UK & Ireland, have been crowned.

The food and support services firm selected a gold, silver and bronze medal winner across three categories; apprentice, junior and senior chef of the year.

In the senior competiton, ten chefs were given the task of cooking four courses in two hours, with Chartwells' Chef Aaron Latham, from De Montfort University, winning gold.

“The past six weeks have been hard work, constantly tweaking and practicing but now the hard work has paid off,” said Latham.

Faye de Souza from Restaurant Associates won the junior event and Michael Ladapo from Levy Restaurants won gold in the apprentice category.

Judges of the event included Brian Turner CBE, Peter Griiffiths MBE and last year’s senior Chef of the Year winner, David Mahoney.

Nick Vadis, Compass culinary director, said: “The competition offers the brilliant culinary talent we have across the company an opportunity to showcase their skills.

“The increase in finalists in both the junior and senior categories, highlights the amount of talent we have and this is why it’s an event I look forward to every year.”
