Catering foundation aids education funding of four students

Almost £2,000 in food education funding has been awarded to four year 11 students from Ulverston by the Aroma Catering Foundation (ACF).

The funds have been handed to Ulverston Victoria High School (UVHS) students Jamie Butterworth, Alfie Danson, Niamh Kelly and Bradley Sands.

ACF has also carried out mock interviews, work preparation sessions, and has offered assistance with application forms.

The foundation was set up by Nick Hall, after his first year of teaching at UVHS.

He noticed there were a lot of students and young people with a passion for food and cooking, but without the means to attend catering college.

Aroma offers a way of getting young people experience of working in a kitchen by hosting 'pop up' style restaurant events serving fine dining food.

The years 7 to 13 students act as chefs, waiters and front of house staff, as well as event organisers and photographers.

The money raised from these nights is given out to applicants and individuals who apply for it, covering the cost of any tuition fees, transport, chef whites and equipment.

Hall commented: “The charity is going from strength to strength and plans are now in place to develop the list of ambassadors, get more local chefs and restaurants involved with schools, and of course continue to run more events so that Aroma can fund another year group of students wanting to purse dreams and passions of working in the catering and hospitality industry.”
