Allowing young pupils to join in the Royal Wedding celebrations this month (19 May), caterer Cityserve has planned a series of food-themed celebrations across 133 of its schools.

To mark the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the company is organising themed days to “give hundreds of children the chance to join in Britain’s excitement,” from picnics and afternoon tea to fish and chip lunches, burger days, and Union Jack boxes.

Parents are also invited to the afternoon teas at some schools, which are set to take place on 17 and 18 May.

Catering for around 70,000 meals every school day across the Birmingham, the company said the total number of participating schools would be higher, but some are unable to due to Ramadan.

It will also serve its typical “health-focused” options alongside the special themed menus, for those that wish.

Head of service Dale Wild said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to put Cityserve on the map in Birmingham and across the UK for all the right reasons.

“Our support for the Royal Wedding celebrations communicated through the diverse and culturally complex landscape of our children in Birmingham will no doubt unite everyone in celebrating the Royal Wedding in a way not seen before.

“Of course, we’ll have all our usual healthy options on offer but children at our participating schools will have the opportunity for a treat to mark such a special occasion.

“I am really looking forward to all of our schools taking part in this celebration wishing Meghan and Harry all the very best for their future together.”
