Independent caterer Bartlett Mitchell is once again celebrating its three-star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA), having achieved ‘record scores’ across the business.

Praised for its “commitment to preserving and valuing natural resources, support for the community, treating staff fairly and supporting global farmers,” the company scored well above the SRA average in such key areas:

  • Valuing natural resources – Bartlett Mitchell, 93% vs. average 47%
  • Community support - Bartlett Mitchell, 95% vs. average 89%
  • Fair treatment of staff - Bartlett Mitchell, 92% vs. average 79%
  • Support for global farmers - Bartlett Mitchell, 90% vs. average 79%

As such, in the past year the company has reduced its energy consumption by purchasing energy saving equipment; continued to support the Jannehkunda village (Gambia); ensured 100% of its direct employees are paid at least the London Living Wage or National Living Wage; and supported farmers through its sustainable coffee brand Perkee.

Executive chairman Wendy Bartlett commented: “This recognition is testament to the fantastic efforts of our Bartlett Mitchell (BM) family across the board. We are really pleased to have achieved such fantastic ratings in so many key areas.

“It must be said that, while this recognition is fantastic, the actual positive impacts our teams have made to so many lives and the environment is what drives us every day.

“As a responsible business, we know we can create more positive change and we use this as our motivation to innovate and adapt.”

The company was first awarded a three-star SRA rating in 2014.
